How transfers work
A registration deferment from the canceled 2020 Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure can be transferred without a fee at any time from now until the start of GOBA 2024.
This page provides a forum for people looking to sell or buy a GOBA 2020 deferment to get in touch.
The buyer inherits all privileges and limitations of the GOBA 2020 deferment at the time of the transfer. The transfer is not official until the seller submits the online GOBA Deferment Transfer Form to Columbus Outdoor Pursuits.
A deferment grants the holder one fully paid GOBA registration in his or her choice of 2022, 2023 or 2024. There is no additional charge for the registration, even if the price of GOBA has increased.
Deferments and WOBA
A GOBA deferment cannot be used for a fully paid Western Ohio Bicycle Adventure registration in 2021. GOBA and WOBA are two separate events, both operated by Columbus Outdoor Pursuits.
But status as a deferment holder gives the holder priority for registration for WOBA, depending on whether their deferment falls into Group 1 or Group 2.
- Group 1 consists of people whose deferment is for an “early bird” GOBA registration that were originally purchased between Nov. 25 and Dec. 31, 2019, for $295.
- Group 2 consists of people whose deferment is for a “regular” GOBA registration that was purchased between Jan. 1 and March 17, 2020, for $320.
Deferment holders in Group 1 are guaranteed a spot in WOBA if they register by March 31, 2021, at the discounted rate of $240 (adult).
Deferment holders in Group 2 are NOT guaranteed a spot in WOBA but can sign up for a wait-list to receive priority for any spots that the Group 1 deferment holders don’t fill by March 31, 2021. Those who make the cut can register for WOBA at the $240 rate from April 1-15, 2021. The cut is based on when the 2020 GOBA registration was purchased — the earlier the purchase, the higher the spot on the wait-list. (Update: Everyone on the wait-list made the cut and can claim a guaranteed spot on WOBA if they register by April 15, 2021.)
Transferring a deferment
If there’s a transfer of a Group 1 deferment, the seller must submit the online transfer form by April 15, 2021, and the buyer must register for WOBA by April 30, 2021, to receive a guaranteed spot and the $240 rate.
All of those on the Group 2 deferment wait-list made the cut. If they wish to sell the deferment, they must submit the online transfer form by April 15, 2021, and the buyer must register for WOBA by April 30, 2021, to receive a guaranteed spot and the $240 rate.
Open registration period
If WOBA has spots remaining after April 1, 2021, an open registration period will be held until May 15 or until all the spots are sold, whichever occurs first. During the open period, the adult registration price for non-holders of deferments is $350 until April 15 and $400 after April 15. The open registration period is first come, first served. No priority for spots is given to deferment holders, except the April 30 deadline for a guaranteed spot if an eligible deferment was transferred by April 15.
